At the time (1938), the zoo gathered a large sample of the fauna and flora of Central Africa. It was part, with the botanical garden, of this green belt representing the forest in the city. Today, the site is reduced and suffers from a crying lack of means and maintenance. The garden is now only one of the few green places to walk in the city. An ambitious rehabilitation plan has been initiated to safeguard this important part of Kinshasa's heritage and to adapt it to the requirements of a 21st century zoo (ecotourism...).

Beaucoup de primates mais l'état du zoo est déplorabletié
Beaucoup de primates différents mais dans des cages trop petites et sales. Un couple de buffle. Quelques crocodiles. Le billet pour les étrangers est à 5000 francs congolais. Le lieux est assez vert ce qui est agréable, dommage que ce soit délabré.

It's heartbreaking to visit this place. Conserv Congo paid a visit recently and we were met by a dumping site, not a zoo. We need to our zoo back and that's Asap! The animals look stressed, hungry and thirsty. The cages are full of filth and without any care nor supervision. www.conseevcongo.org

Cette visite vous brisera le coeur. Les animaux n'ont même pas accès à de l'eau fraiche dans leur enclos qui en plus est souvent remplis de déchets (bouteilles d'eau vide, sachets, ...) Si l'environnement était plus propre et les animaux en meilleurs états il s'agirait là d'un endroit fort agréable à Kinshasa.
