AHU HANGA POUKURA - AHU VAHU - MAUNGA ORITO

At 3 km from Vinapu, here is a site whose moai lie on the ground, half buried and the head cracked for some of them. The grounding and destruction of moai ahu still check 2 km further, on the site of Vaihu where eight statues are aligned by land, lie in their dishonour; their giant caps, pukao, strew grass as a symbol of their decline. Not far away is the Maunga Orito, Obsidian quarry.
