MUSEO SITIO COLON
An informative museum featuring a collection of human mummies, animal skins and feathers adorning corpses.
The main attraction of this site, at the foot of Morro de Arica, is the collection of mummies on display in the very place where they were discovered. No fewer than 32 human remains can be seen behind glass walls. These Chinchorro mummies, dating from 6000 to 2000 BC, were unearthed (along with some 50 others) in 2004 during excavations undertaken for the construction of a hotel - a project abandoned to make way for the museum. In addition to mummification strips, animal skins and feathers adorn the corpses. An instructive stopover!
