SAN JOSÉ DE LA MARIQUINA AND THE SPANISH CASTLE
Castle built in 1647 to defend the town against possible English or Dutch incursions by river.
The main reason for coming here is the Spanish castle San Luis de Alba de Cruces. Built in 1647 by Governor Negrete, its first function was to defend the city against possible English or Dutch incursions by river. After its occupation in 1820 by Beauchef's troops, the fort was completely forgotten. Only in 1967, the University of the South undertook to restore it based on the plans of the time. A place full of history.
