It's one of the city's iconic buildings! Madras Central station, inaugurated in 1873, was designed by architect George Harding during the British Raj. Renamed Chennai Central in 1998, it adopted its current name on April 5, 2019, in honor of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Dr. M.G. Ramachandran. With its imposing neo-Gothic architecture and distinctive ochre color, the station is an emblematic monument of the city, classified as an Indian heritage site.
