Kochi : Discover

Formerly called Cochin, Kochi is one of the most interesting cities in South India, a kaleidoscope of Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese, Christian, Muslim and of course Malabar influences. Much has changed over the years and today Kochi is a bustling and dynamic city, with rapidly rising land prices, a port that is becoming India's largest and a rapidly growing commuter population. The city is built partly on the mainland (Ernakulam district, the "modern" city), partly on several islets and districts (Fort Kochi, where the colonial monuments are concentrated, Mattancherry, and Vypeen Island where Cherai beach is located), which can be reached by ferry. A certain romantic charm remains in the Fort Kochi area, especially along the Chinese tiles, where the presence of Vasco de Gama still floats.
