KOTTANKULANGARA DEVI TEMPLE

The deity of the Kottankulangara temple is Durga Bhagavathy, the Mother Goddess. It is famous for the Kottankulangara Chamayavilakku festival, where thousands of men dress as women and carry lamps into the temple as an offering to the presiding deity. This festival takes place around the end of March, the dates varying according to the lunar calendar. Although the entrance of the temple is forbidden to non-Hindus, one can however come to admire the festival.
