Former palace of the Travancore maharajas, located south of Trivandrum on the road to Kanyakumari, worth a visit for its frescoes...
Located south of Trivandrum, on the road to Kanyakumari, this former palace of the Travancore maharajas is a magnificent example of Kerala architecture. Also known as Kalkulam Palace, it was built in the early 16th century and contains beautiful rosewood carvings and murals from the 17th and 18th centuries. Padmanabhapuram was once the capital of the Hindu kingdom of Travancore. Although geographically located in the state of Tamil Nadu, the palace is administered by the government of Kerala.

La collection d'objets exposés n'est pas des plus impressionnantes mais la construction du bâtiment intéressante et surtout, le calme est réellement appréciable.
