Ashurkhana, one of Mohammed Quli Qutb Shahi's buildings in Hyderabad, famous for its glazed tile mosaics
This ashurkhana is one of the first buildings of Mohammed Quli Qutb Shahi in Hyderabad. It was built between 1592 and 1596, near the river. As a repository of ancient banners and relics displayed only during Moharrem, the Muslim month of mourning, it is among the oldest imambara in India. The Shia Muslims of Hyderabad come here to worship during this month. The building is famous for its glazed tile mosaics that draw beautiful Persian-style patterns on the walls and its wooden colonnade, a late addition.
