Hyderabad, also known as "Cyberabad" because of its biotech cluster, the second largest in India after Bangalore, has grown enormously over the past four hundred years. Originally situated on the south side of the Musi River, and founded to reflect the splendor and style of government of Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutb Shahi, the city has expanded in all directions, northwards, across the river, eastwards and westwards. It has a population of 6,809,970. Having long been the capital of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad became the capital of the new state of Telangana when it was created on June 2, 2014. It will remain the joint administrative capital of the two states until 2024.
