FOREIGNERS REGISTRATION OFFICE (FRO)

The Foreigner Registration Office is the administrative body to go to if you are staying in India for more than 6 months. Registration for foreign residents is compulsory. Each state capital has a Foreigners Registration Office. If you don't live in one of these, you should plan to spend at least one night there, as the Indian administration is notoriously mischievous and incomprehensible. Be patient.
