TEMPLES

Maheshwar is known for its temples. If the lower city is primarily Muslim, the Hindu fervor stands out the closer one gets to the Narmada river. The most interesting temples are located along the ghats and inside the fort. No temple stands out except those in the fort. Many pilgrims visit these temples and the ghats for bathing and ablutions. The ancestral rites, the colorful saris, the boisterous children, the boats lined up along the bank constitute a most striking spectacle.
