Despite the relatively small numberof havelis, Lakshmangarh has a picturesque appearance. Few foreign travelers stop here, and if you know a few words of Hindi, you will arouse respectful and friendly curiosity. In the early 19th century, the ruler of Shikar, Lakshman Singh, decided to build a modern city for his kingdom. He gave it a geometrical configuration, obviously inspired by Jaipur. Two centuries later, such considerations can lead to a smile as the town seems rustic with its black pigs wandering in the streets and basking in the puddles during the monsoon.
