KASBAH D'AMRIDIL
Erected in the 17th century, the Amridil kasbah, once featured on 50 dirham banknotes, is a remarkable example of Berber architecture. Its imposing walls, crenellated towers and geometric patterns bear witness to the skills of local craftsmen and the ingenuity of the inhabitants of the time. Inside its walls, the Amridil Kasbah reveals a labyrinth of courtyards, rooms and secret passages. Attics, stables, kitchens and bedrooms all bear witness to the daily lives of the families who once lived here. The kasbah's museum displays traditional objects, farming tools and Berber costumes, offering visitors a glimpse of the region's cultural wealth. At its peak, the kasbah welcomed up to 400 guests! The Amridil kasbah is also a popular film location. Many famous films, such as "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves", have been shot here, contributing to its international renown. An interesting visit, bearing in mind that many of the region's kasbahs are falling into disrepair, it gives a better understanding of this unique architecture. This architectural gem is a living testimony to the history and culture of southern Morocco. Local guides (including Rachid, whom we really enjoyed) offer guided tours, passionately sharing the secrets and anecdotes of this emblematic monument. Try to visit early in the morning, to enjoy the site in peace and quiet.
