Vast network of caves, inside the first fortified enclosure, serving as a refuge and growing over the centuries
The creation of this vast network of caves, inside the first fortified enclosure, began in the Phoenician period and it has been enlarged over the centuries, serving as a refuge, until its current surface area, which spreads over three levels. Its name is due to its geographical location, next to religious buildings, which communicate with the cave. It was here that ceremonies were held in times of war. Notice the niches carved in the rock that allowed the soldiers to rest. The caves are accessible with a guided tour (in Spanish).
