MONUMENT DES DÉFENSEURS DE TREBINJE
This monument is a misnomer: it pays tribute to the Bosnian-Serbs who sowed death outside the city between 1991 and 1996.
This monument, erected in 2011 (Spomenik Braniocima Trebinja/Споменик Браниоцима Требиња) stands 100 m southwest of the old town. It honors 258 Bosnian-Serb soldiers and militiamen from Trebinje who died between 1991 and 1995. Organized around a tall, stylized sword, it's a misnomer: the town was never attacked during this period. On the contrary: Trebinje's Bosnian-Serb soldiers and militiamen wreaked death and destruction from Dubrovnik to Sarajevo between 1991 and 1996.
