At an altitude of 1,600 m, at the end of a road in poor condition, Chovi, in northern Georgia, marks the last limit before Russia. This summer resort at the foot of the superb Mount Mamisoni (3,426 m) was a dream destination in Soviet times. Today, although the infrastructure has been ruined, Chovi is getting back on its feet and new seasonal hotels are opening their doors, sometimes in a somewhat disconcerting style. The wealthy society of Tbilisi comes to spend their holidays here, attracted by the beauty of the site and the many possibilities for hiking. Accommodation remains relatively cheap for the moment. The resort is deserted by its inhabitants in winter.
