Vauban dam near the Ponts Couverts, becoming a place to stroll with a panoramic terrace with an incredible view of the canals
Near the Ponts Couverts, this building, constructed around 1690 by Tarade, enabled the entire southern front of the town to be flooded in the face of a potential enemy assault. Around 1880, the German authorities had the building raised by one storey and covered with earth and grass. Spanning the Ill River, this historic monument is now a popular place to stroll, thanks to the panoramic terrace built by the city of Strasbourg in 1966 at the top of the building. It offers an incredible, unobstructed view of the Petite France district and its canals.
