The first of Strasbourg's Protestant parish churches to be rebuilt in the neo-Romanesque style in the century.

The Temple Neuf was the first Protestant parish church in Strasbourg. In 1870, the church and library were burnt down during the bombardment of Strasbourg. Built of Vosges sandstone, the temple was rebuilt in the 19th century in the neo-Romanesque style. Inside, the great organ by Joseph Mercklin belongs to the Parisian symphonic aesthetic of the late 19th century and, like an orchestra, multiplies sonorities. In the background is the tombstone of Jean Tauler, the famous Alsatian preacher. The new layout of the café Respire invites visitors to relax and exchange ideas in the heart of the temple. Occasional exhibitions enliven the space in all seasons.

Beautiful church in Strasbourg center. Especially impressive at night with the beautiful indoor illumination.
