Sourgout, with a population of 373,940, is the largest city in the Khantys-Mansis district. Built by settlers in 1593, the village of Sourgout, with wooden houses and narrow paths, was surrounded by marshes. Today it is the third largest economic city in Russia and is inhabited by black gold miners A gleaming city centre, several theatres, museums, clubs, a water park, an unfailing accessibility, despite a subarctic climate. However, Surgut is not of great tourist interest. Except for very short summer nights (at the limit of the polar day) and the world's longest single piled cable-stayed bridge (2 km).
