Neviansk, 22,943 inhabitants, is about 70 km north of Ekaterinburg. The foundry-fortress was established in 1701 and passed on a year later to one of Peter the Great's companions, A. Demidov, leader of a powerful industrial dynasty. The metal with the "Old Sable" label that was produced there then became world famous.
