This is a village at the end of the world, lost at the bottom of the soudanienne forest bordering on the central African border. Only a few commercial vehicles take the long and bad track from Am Timan to connect the Central African Republic (when the border is open…). In the rainy season, the village is even more isolated on its mud islet, ravaged by mosquito armies; the few people who remain there (in general, public servants in disgrace or some elderly people who can no longer move) then start a six-month hibernation, waiting patiently for the return of the fine days and trucks, to see a little life…In the time of the colony, Salamat was even more isolated, as there were no radio communications; the administrators of the cities were then sending their mail through courageous factors that were travelling on foot or swimming during the winter; However, missives would reach their recipients almost always on the scheduled day! The village is also known for its former Courage administrator, whose name is told in the pages of this guide…
