WADI BANI KHALID
Petit Futé's opinion on WADI BANI KHALID
A village suspended on the burning slopes, drowned in green palms, forms one of the most striking postcards of Oman. The easy access by the asphalt road, the parking lot, the tourist coffee shop, the natural pools crossed by modern and secure footbridges, is a major destination for the Omani family and travellers. From there, following the long-distance hiking trail, walkers cross the range in 14 hours. It takes considerably less energy to laze on the large rocks and dive into the green water. During the week, when it is quieter, this water park offered by nature and re-linked by man is a recommended excursion. To enjoy the place, take a towel and a bathing suit, which for the ladies should be covered as the posters remind you. Between the car park and the swimming pools there is a goat path. Don't hesitate to move away from the crowd a little by walking up the wadi for more tranquility. The gorge narrows to form a rather dizzying canyon. After the sometimes delicate passage of several large limestone blocks and the crossing of several basins whose water level varies according to the seasons, we arrive at a cave (Miqil Cave), extremely narrow. It stands halfway up the wall. Following a narrow corridor that requires crawling, it opens into a vast dark cavity, extended by vaults and galleries. Even if the place is marked out, it is better to come there with locals or a guide.
