Ventozelo is much more than a winery! The estate (Quinta) has been converted into a comfortable hotel. The 29 rooms in the various buildings have been renovated while preserving the original architecture. On-site, the Cantina de Ventozelo restaurant serves regional dishes, made with products from the Quinta or local produce. Throughout the year, there are various nature-related activities. The ideal place to stay if you're just passing through, or for a relaxing break discovering the Douro region.

Owner's Message
The land of Quinta de Ventozelo was cultivated by the Cistercian monks, great promoters of local agriculture and founders of Port Wine, who lived in the area in the Middle Ages. The first historical reference to Ventozelo dates back to 1288, but around 1500, by emphyteusis of the Cistercian monastery of S. Pedro das Águias, which became the property of the nobles of the Casa do Poço, in Lamego, the quinta was created.
It is one of the largest and oldest quinta in the Douro. It has had various owners over the centuries, each one transforming it until it is as we know it today.
The singular geography of Quinta de Ventozelo gives it innumerable possibilities of exploitation. A Mediterranean forest with a great diversity of flora and fauna covers a large area of the quinta. On an agricultural level, the production of olive oil, honey, fruit and cork also has its place. But it is the area reserved for wine-growing that predominates. Quinta de Ventozelo is a real reserve of the biodiversity of the region.
The exceptional sunshine and climate of Ventozelo allow for excellent viticulture. Among all the species and crops that live here, the vine is queen. With more than a million vines planted on almost 200 hectares, from the banks of the Douro, at almost 130 metres, to the top of the Quinta, above 500 metres, the grapes reach a remarkable freshness.
The aim of the technical team is to maximise the differentiation and excellence of this land thanks to its diversity of altitudes, exposures, ages of the vines, density of plantations, variety of grape varieties and conduction systems.
Understanding this complexity and knowing how to choose the best viticultural practices to obtain unique wines is a real challenge. All Ventozelo wines combine the unique essence of this place with the elegance and balance of the great wines of the Douro.
