The largest natural freshwater lake in southern Africa covers 77 km2, with an average depth of 13 m. Separated from the ocean by dunes over 160m high and covered with thick thicket, the Sibaya Rocktail Mabibi is full of hippos and crocodiles. So you might as well forget about going for a swim or it could end in drama. Many species of fish have been recorded here, including marine species that have been acclimatized over the centuries. Try to use your imagination: there was even a time when the lake was connected to the ocean.
