SAINT AUGUSTINE'S PRIORY

A few crosses leaning over tombstones overgrown with weeds; the wind whistles through the trees and scratches its wings on a cactus massif... It is difficult to make your way to the church cave consecrated in 1869 by the Anglican Society of St. Augustine. It was a strange atmosphere in this mission that Archbishop Desmond Tutu liked to frequent. Between 1929 and 1955, hundreds of young Africans received a high level of education here. For the Sotho community, the tomb of the prophetess Mantsopa Anna Makheta is a place of pilgrimage.
