83 km further north, the town of Alexander Bay watches over the mouth of the Orange River, which was born somewhere in the secret mountains of the Drakensberg-Lesothan. The village is located on the Namibian border, if you cross the bridge you arrive at Oranjemund. Beware: beyond Oranjemund to the north, the Sperrgebiet, a diamond mining area operated by De Beers, is off limits to tourists. You will have to follow the border and the Orange River until you reach the main C13 road via the Auchass Pass. This kind of trip is much more pleasant and safer in a 4WD, which is highly recommended.
