Keimoes is a green oasis in this arid desert. Fifty kilometres south-west of Upington, this picturesque village is a centre of fruit and vegetable growing, and especially vineyards, thanks to an irrigation system that starts from the Orange River. An interesting attraction in the town is a large millet mill wheel on the irrigation channel, which is still in use. 4 km from Keimoes, on the road to Augrabies Falls, you will find the Tieberg Nature Reserve, 160 ha where multiple aloes grow, including the plant endemic to the region Aloe gariepensis. The Orange River then divides into small streams forming a series of islands.
