Commemoration of the capture of Saigon, April 30, 1975. Non-working day. Red flags with gold stars are flying everywhere.
In March 1975, the Vietnamese People's Army seized Buôn Ma Thuôt, held by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, in the highlands. The road south is open. On April 30, 1975, Communist troops entered Saigon. The South Vietnamese government is capitulating. The victory of the communist government in Hanoi puts an end to the war between the two Vietnamese and buries the after-effects of colonization. Liberation Day is commemorated every year throughout the country and the streets are paved with the red and gold colours of the national flag.
