IGLESIA DEL SANTÍSIMO CRISTO
Church preserving the foundations of an ancient Roman domus in Santander.
Located beneath the cathedral, which was rebuilt in its original Gothic style after the siniestro of 1941, the crypt dates back to the Romanesque period (11th-13th century). Its three naves divided by sturdy pillars make it welcoming. But to discover its full interest, you have to look down: to the left, beneath the nave, are the foundations of an ancient Roman domus. The whole is cleverly lit, covered in thick glass and, alas, sometimes camouflaged by church pews..
