BATAILLE DES FLEURS

For more than a hundred years, the famous Laredo Flower Battle has been celebrated on the last Friday in August. At this time, the town's fields are covered with carnations and dahlias, picked just three days before the big parade. The day before, the floats, richly decorated with natural flowers, are prepared in a festive atmosphere. The parade takes place the next day at around 5.30 p.m. and is accompanied by open-air markets and concerts. The most beautiful float is chosen by a jury, and the day ends with fireworks.
