Walls symbol of the city of Avila, built in 1090 on ancient Roman remains by Raimundo de Borgona
They are the symbols of the city and were built in 1090 on ancient Roman remains by Raimundo de Borgoña, son-in-law of Alfonso VI of Castile. They still surround the city in its entirety (2,516 m in perimeter, 88 towers and a few posterns). Among the ashlars that dominate the construction, note the ancient stones from ancient Roman remains, such as cistus. Unfortunately, it can only be accessed in a short stretch from the Parador Nacional. However, the views of the mountains from here are breathtaking.
