Unusual, this railway, inherited from the communists, still crosses the woods of the Buda hills. It is run by children.
The line is 11 km long and runs through woods and hills bordering Buda, making for a wonderful "countryside experience". Children between 10 and 14 years old are in charge of the railway, accompanied by professional railwaymen. Created in 1948, the Pioneer Train was part of the communist ideology which aimed at teaching discipline and work to the youngest. The old steam locomotive is brought out at the weekend, making the ride all the more charming. Who knows, maybe this little train ride will reveal some vocations!

Le trajet pour y aller est un peu long (1 tram et le train à crémallière au tarif normal). En janvier il n'y avait personne, on a même dû chercher les enfants ! Mais le train est arrivé et nous avons embarqué pour la dernière descente de la journée, c'est intéressant car le train récupère tous les enfants sur le chemin pour les redescendre, ambiance garantie !! Nous n'avons pas payé, surement parce que nous étions hors saison ou parce que c'était la dernière descente ? Je pense que quand il fait beau c'est intéressant de faire deux ou trois arrêts et de prendre le libego (le télésiège) histoire de marcher un peu et d'avoir une belle vue sur la ville...
Moi je n'ai pas trouvé la ballade palpitante mais mon fils a adoré !! Attention par contre nous avons essayé de venir pour avoir la vieille locomotive mais elle n'était en service...
