Labour Day (a public holiday) remains an institution in the life of Hungarians. In the days of communist Hungary, it was a time of great gatherings to glorify the regime and its workers. Today is often the first day of summer (the mercury can reach 25 degrees!) and we enjoy various free concerts (Majális) in the Bois-de-la-Ville (in Pest) and Tabán (in Buda). Political parties often gather their troops at small festivals.
