Stay in a historic hotel full of charm in Budapest.
The Astoria Hotel has retained its early 20th century (1914) layout and furnishings, giving it an elegant, rather intimate, old-fashioned charm that is quite unique. Witness to the formation of Hungary's first democratic government in 1918, and hit several times by bombings during World War II, it was completely renovated in 1963, and its rooms (small but comfortable, air-conditioned) in 2006. Behind the delightfully old-fashioned lobby with its green-veined marble inlays, there is an ex-famous café.

Had a renovated room which was very good indeed. Huge king size bed which was very comfortable. Fantastic shower that you didn’t want to leave.
The only negative is the road noise…..if you require quiet to sleep this definitely isn’t the hotel for you. Traffic noise and noise of people talking echos up the buildings and straight into your room. Bear in mind this is a hugely central hotel so noise is 24/7. Double gazed windows dull the noise but definitely not completely….some may not be bothered by this…others will hate it.
A very quaint hotel in general.
The hotel itself looks a little dated, but everything worked and the service was good. A kettle in the room would have been nice.
