The Monastery of Arkadi is one of the most historic monasteries in Crete and is well worth a visit. It is recognized by Unesco as a "Monument of Freedom". You can visit the refectory, the powder magazine, the kitchens, the gardens and the museum. Note that the monastery is still a place of prayer and houses a religious community. It is also possible to attend a celebration (attention correct dress required). It is possible to walk from the monastery to Thronos (2h30 walk). By car, the road through Perivolia is picturesque.

A visiter impérativement, d'abord pour son état de conservation, ensuite pour son histoire : symbole de la résistance à l'invasion turque en 1866.

Un magnifique lieu tout en sérénité et en recueillement. Le monastère présente quelques petites expos sur la lutte d'indépendance contre la Turquie. Gros plus du lieu: les nombreuses fleurs, palmiers, oliviers dans le Monastère. A faire sans hésiter!

The monastery of Arkadi is located near Rethymnon is not get there by bus, train or car. This monastery is still a place of worship. It is possible to visit the gardens, the museum, attend a celebration... Among the many monasteries of the Peak, Arkadi is in my eyes unmissable.
