The Neratzés Mosque is a former Venetian church built in the fifteenth century and transformed into a mosque by the Ottomans.
The Neratzés mosque, also known as the mosque of the pasha Gazi Hussein, is for the young Réthymniotes the Conservatory! It is a former Venetian church built in the fifteenth century, transformed into a mosque by the Ottomans two centuries later. We discover the cohabitation of two styles that have each left their mark on this building, one of the most important in the city. The minaret dates from the late nineteenth century, just before Crete gained independence. Today, it houses the city's conservatory.
