Superbe rando, parmi les plus connues de Crète. Les paysages sont magnifiques, allant de la montagne pleine d'arbres aux gorges presque arides. Minimum 13km de descente jusqu'à une navette et 16 km jusqu'à la mer. Prévoir de bonnes chaussures et une bonne condition physique même s'il s'agit de descente. Nombreux points d'eau potable le long du parcours.

Pour être plus tranquille, mieux vaut loger à Agia Roumeli, partir de là à pied jusqu'à l'entrée du parc (ouverture à 7h). Nous avons parcouru dans ce sens 9km sur les 13km, dont les 6 premiers seuls. Bien prévoir une polaire pour attaquer tôt le matin. Récompense du début de la rando : au niveau des ruines de Samaria, nous avons eu le plaisir de voir et d'approcher au plus près des chèvres appelées Kri-Kri (elles ressemblent à des bouquetins avec des cornes un peu moins longues mais leur pelage se confond dans les paysage). Retour moins intéressant car plus de monde et on ne regarde que ses pieds, sauf quand on arrive dans la partie des gorges plus étroites.

Be careful if it is better to be in the park there (even in summer) from 7:00 and not 6:00 including is indicated.
It seems that has changed for several years!
One 1:00 waited in the cold (yes in July).
Ask if there is a boat to return even in summer because we had to catch a water taxi because the connection with will paléohora was not guaranteed more during 10 days! (July 2010)

The opening dates of the park are more elastic, this year (2008) the park was still open on October 25th.
