Temple of the Minoan period in Archanes with a discovery of skeletons in the 1980s.
Temple of the Minoan period. The discovery in this temple in the early 1980 s, of three skeletons, one of a young man with a dagger planted in the chest, was the object of intense controversy among specialists. It seems to indicate in any case that the Minoans practiced ritual sacrifices partially contradicting theories describing a peaceful and ideal society. An earthquake (in 1700 BC) seems to have interrupted a ceremony, which would have caused the death of the participants and destroyed the building.
