Fountain built by Captain Gianmatteo Bembo in a pleasant site in Heraklion.
This fountain was built between 1552 and 1554 by Captain Gianmatteo Bembo who was the first to bring the spring water to Candia by an aqueduct. It is said that the head-without-head statue, embedded in the wall during the Turkish occupation, has supernatural powers. In May, great religious festivals were held and used as a pretext for organizing resistance movements. The place is very pleasant, with shady coffee terraces where you can find yourself pleasantly for a small break.
