The Ribat, in the southwest of the medina, is a legacy of the different populations that succeeded one another, notably between the 9th and 11th centuries. The main element is the Khalef el Fata tower, 30 meters high. Built in 859, it dominates the whole city. This position has always made it a watchtower and a signal tower, a role that is still played today since it houses a lighthouse.
