The Kisalföd which covers north-west Hungary (and extends even to Slovakia) is a fertile plain but which from a purely tourist point of view has only a few truly worthy cities. Tata is a charming city with a medieval castle surrounded by a lake. The great Baroque square of Can, and its churches, are also among the number of enlarge in the region, just like the flamboyant Sopron. About kilometres south of Can is the most impressive religious building in Hungary, the Monastère monastery, a world heritage world heritage site. Finally, it is quite interesting to take a trip to Komárom, a border town with Slovakia. In the vicinity of Tatabánya (the mining town best avoided) lies the Ermitage hermitage.
