This park was created to promote the sustainable tourism policy of the Savegre river, and to protect the magnificent quetzal...
Since 2006, the protection of the habitats of endemic species and the reproduction of the quetzal is the primary mission of this young park. Its creation aims to promote the sustainable tourism policy of the Savegre river, to neutralize carbon dioxide emissions... and of course, to protect the magnificent quetzal. Home of this small bird with a wonderful plumage, this park offers a unique biodiversity (14 ecosystems in three different forest areas). We recommend going there early in the morning to have a chance to admire the quetzals! Marked paths of different lengths. The visit is even more interesting with a local guide. Now, to admire the quetzal, no need to go far into the forest, quite the contrary! We had the chance to admire the quetzal several times, on the roadside. These birds are not the easiest to spot, blending in with the surrounding nature, but once you do, you will be able to admire them for many minutes without them taking offense. During the breeding season, from March to June, the tail of the males is particularly long and adorned with sublime green feathers. It is the beauty of its plumage that has cost it to be declared as almost threatened with extinction today. For small budgets, the best plan is to follow the groups from a distance. If you see a crowd, it is certainly that the coveted bird is there. A bird of unique beauty!
