This religious feast commemorates the universal patron saint of the Catholic Church, St. Joseph, also patron saint of San Jose.
March 19 is the feast day of St. Joseph, patron saint of the capital San José and of the province. This religious celebration commemorates the universal patron saint of the Catholic Church, Saint Joseph or Joseph of Nazareth, husband of Mary and earthly father of Christ. The holy patriarch wears the tricolor flag crossed on his chest, and it was customary for the militia to honor him during the mass. The communities of the country that have San Jose as their patron also unite for the feast: Liberia and Cañas, Guanacaste, Hojancha and Parrita, Puntarenas and Siquirres.
