Housed in a handsome colonial building, it was the second home of Robert Ho Tung, a wealthy Hong Kong businessman. On his death in 1955, he bequeathed the property to the government with the intention of turning it into a library. Today, it is the city's largest public library, thanks to the addition of a modern structure in 2005. A harmonious blend of historic and contemporary architecture, the library and its garden make for a peaceful stopover.
