KAIYUAN TEMPLE
This typical temple is still the site of many religious activities and attracts many pilgrims
Built during the Tang Dynasty in 738, Kaiyuan Temple is one of Chaozhou's oldest and most prestigious temples. Formerly known as Lifeng, it suffered damage during the Cultural Revolution, but its magnificent roof ornamentation and restored décor have restored it to its former glory. Still active today, it welcomes many pilgrims and resident monks who perpetuate Buddhist traditions. The soothing ambience is enhanced by the incense and Buddhist statue vendors lining the surrounding street.
