Temple offering an unobstructed view of the ancient trading city of Chaozhou
Hanwen Temple is dedicated to Han Yu, an eminent writer, thinker and politician of the Tang dynasty (618-907). Built in 1189 during the Song dynasty, it is one of the oldest and best-preserved temples honoring Han Yu. The architectural complex reflects traditional Chinese style. Points of interest include the Yun Yuan pavilion, which offers a panoramic view of the ancient merchant city of Chaozhou. The temple is also a showcase for calligraphy, paintings and objects relating to the life and work of Han Yu.
