ISLANDS
Islands attached to the territory of Zhuhai, transformed into an important seaside resort for southern China
In the 1980s, Zhuhai incorporated 146 islands into its territory, earning it the nickname "City of Islands". This vast archipelago has transformed the region into a major seaside resort in southern China, attracting large numbers of visitors every weekend, especially from Hong Kong and Shenzhen. While the majority of these islands remain uninhabited, some have established themselves as popular destinations, accessible by boat from Zhuhai (ports of Jiuzhou, Wanzai or Xiangzhou).
Wailingding Dao (外伶仃岛), on the border of Shenzhen's territorial waters, captivates with its golden sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, offering a peaceful retreat from urban hustle and bustle.
Longzhou Dao (龙舟岛), 2 km from the coast, is an island 90% forested, dotted with enigmatic rock formations and bordered by two freely accessible beaches. From its heights, the panoramic view of Zhuhai and Macau is breathtaking.
Dong'Ao Dao (东澳岛) unveils lush nature and historical relics, with maritime fortifications reminiscent of its strategic past.
Wanshan Dao (万山岛) has established itself as an international marina, bringing together yacht owners from Hong Kong and Macau. But behind this exclusive façade, the island retains grandiose landscapes and a peaceful atmosphere.
Guishan Dao (桂山島) is home to an island community still focused on fishing, while developing tourism that respects its environment. These islands offer a refreshing getaway off the coast of Zhuhai.
