This park, with a total area of 93 ha, contains important monuments to Canton's history
Yuexiu Park, 93 ha, is Canton's largest park, with three artificial lakes. It is home to a number of important monuments. The Zhenhai Tower, built during the Ming period (1368-1644), served as a watchtower. Its strategic location led to its occupation by foreign troops during the Opium Wars. And the famous sculpture of the Five Rams, symbol of the city, erected in 1959. According to legend, Canton was blessed by five genies mounted on rams. They came to bring prosperity by distributing rice shoots to the population.
