HUMAN TEMPLE
This 1,500-year-old temple is one of the most important Buddhist centers.
Hualin Temple, also known as the Temple of the Five Hundred Geniuses, was originally founded as Xilai Monastery by Emperor Wu of the Liang Dynasty in the 520s CE. It is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the region. According to tradition, its foundation is attributed to the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma. In 1655, Zen master Zongfu restored the temple and renamed it Temple Hualin. Among the temple's treasures were a golden Ashoka pagoda and five hundred statues of arhats.
